Tomoyoshi Porpora

If there is one thing that prompted me to do this pandemic, it was to try so many restaurants that I had on my list and that I kept putting off. Tomoyoshi Porpora is one of them, much more because it is a former property of the historic Tomoyoshi Endo restaurant.

Today the current ownership is Chinese but the cuisine has remained practically unchanged, both in the proposal and in the method of preparation.

The menu is very varied and satisfies everyone: appetizers (including salmon roe with Japanese horseradish, tuna with fermented beans and Japanese poached egg), different cuts of sashimi, Japanese carpaccio, sushi (in set, nigiri à la carte, lots of uramaki and temaki) as well as countless hot dishes prepared in the kitchen (such as Japanese omelette, gyoza, sautéed rice, tempura, noodles in broth), donburi (among which there is also lacquered eel) and some sweets (such as mochi and ice cream).

I tried different dishes, to get an idea of the preparation style: marinated mackerel sashimi (very good), high quality cirashi don (the style is very similar to that proposed by Poporoya, so to speak), inari sushi (a very difficult gem to be found in most Japanese restaurants in Milan), uramaki Dragon roll and sushi mix, the latter really abundant but in which I report a lack of care in the preparation of rice. The nigiri were freshly prepared and therefore pleasant, while the hosomaki and uramaki were previously made with a rice, in my opinion, definitely too savory.

The strength of Tomoyoshi Porpora is certainly the competitive price, which certainly balances the average quality of the proposal offered. Located in a decentralized area, near Lambrate, this restaurant certainly meets the needs of those who live far from the center, who do not want to give up uncommon dishes at a low price.
