Surimono

A few steps from San Babila there is Surimono, an elegant shop opened since 1988 and which sells Asian objects, especially Japanese.

The name already indicates something precious: the term surimono in fact indicates the refined small-format prints in vogue between 1790 and 1830 which generally represented a season and embellished with a poem. They were commissioned to artists in small quantities and then donated to friends or a small circle of people.

Here you will find many objects of various types starting with clothing: yakata, authentic vintage kimonos (all unique pieces) to match jackets (haori) and belts (obi, obiage, obijime - the various parts), socks, shoes and flip-flops (tabi, geta, zori) but also containers and small bags (miyabi kago, furoshiki, kinchaku), fans and precious hair clips and small combs for hairstyles.

Also on sale are incense, writing tools such as washi (rice paper), brushes, sumi (ink in decorated bars), suzuri (stone for the preparation of the ink) and even objects for home decoration such as furin, maneki neko, daruma, zuru, koi nobori and Hina dolls.
