L'appolpetta

L'appolpetta is a very recent post-lockdown opening in Paolo Sarpi.

It is a small, well-kept corner with few seats where you can have a quick meal or take away.

The menu, needless to say, focuses on the (relatively) Chinese-flavored meatballs that are served on a bed of rice and vegetables. The tiny meatballs are beef, pork, chicken, fish or shrimp. The problem, however, is that they are washed down with a spicy and slightly sour sauce that completely covers the flavor, so as not to distinguish one meatball from the other.

The menu also offers two other additions: a small selection of dim sum (Taiwanese sausage with bbq sauce, sausage omelette, pork and vegetable dumplings, shrimp dumplings, liangfen with spicy sauce, curry fish ball) and dishes of "traditional Chinese cuisine". This section has left me enormously perplexed since, with the exception of various rice noodles or noodles with Pekingese sauce, onigiri are inexplicably included! I order one with Peking duck. Inside I find rice, duck (which is not Pekingese, but simply stewed), cucumber, carrots, vermicelli noodles and sweet sauce, all wrapped up in a botched way. like a kind of temaki from a soft and sticky nori seaweed. Eating this giant meatball is a real challenge and the taste is not the best.

Added to this are numerous fresh drinks (including those based on soy milk, fresh fruit, homemade tea and matcha) and some aperitif cocktails.

Surely the place is still in full running-in phase but my first opinion is strongly negative. Surely the very low price is a strong point, but the quality and type of food served in my opinion are really low.
