Cat- su Sandro
A big news for fans of the legendary sandwich with Japanese cutlet was launched very recently in Milan: Cat-su Sandro, a funny name given to the new Delivery Valley brand that offers, in fact, an Italian version but very faithful to the Japanese version of katsu sando.
Delivery Valley is the first Italian dark kitchen based on the US model launched in June 2020 by Alida Gotta and Maurizio Rosazza Prin, entrepreneurs, partners in life and in business. Thanks to the collaborations made with the main online delivery platforms (Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats) in a very short time Delivery Valley has become a successful reality, which offers a series of brands that boast genuine cuisine with Italian care and flavor.
In the wake of this success, Cat-su Sandro brand was born in 2021: a decidedly essential menu that allows you to enjoy an excellent sandwich (of which I emphasize the goodness of freshly prepared bread every day) comfortably at home.
In fact, the offer includes only three types of sandwich: classic Sandro (the one most similar to the original Japanese version, made with pork cutlet, secret sauce, iceberg salad, truffle salt, homemade tartar sauce, toasted shokupan), Sandro pollo ( chicken breast cutlet, mayonnaise with mustard and honey, curry salt, cabbage, homemade tonkatsu sauce, toasted shokupan) and Sandro Vegetariano (chickpea panella, salt with aromatic herbs, soy mayonnaise, pepper cream, iceberg , shokupan).
In addition to sandwiches, it is possible to order a series of sides of typically Italian extraction: chicken and potato croquettes, French potatoes, icing chips, fried mozzarella, Ascoli olives. To all this you can add home-made sauces such as mayonnaise, ketchup, classic bbq, Piedmontese green sauce, tzatziki, hummus or tuna sauce as well as homemade tiramisu.
So what is this infamous sandwich like? I obviously tried the classic Sandro and I must say that I liked it very much. Abundant, balanced and not exaggerated in quantity of oil and really tasty. I would have added some Japanese mustard, to give that extra touch but honestly it is delicious even without it - in this regard I would have liked a greater presence of Japanese inspired sandwiches but for now the offer is this, I really hope they decide to expand it because the potential there is!
The price is a bit steep for a sandwich. But they certainly pay off for the quality of the ingredients and the craftsmanship of the individual preparations.
